Privacy policy

CurbSweepEffective October 27, 2026Last updated October 27, 2026

This privacy policy applies only to the CurbSweep iPhone app. For our website, see the website privacy policy.

The short version. CurbSweep has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Your walks, routes and progress are stored only on your iPhone, and Snowbelt Labs never receives them. To draw the map, the app downloads street data and map images from public OpenStreetMap services, which see the map area being requested. Delete the app and everything it stored is gone.

Who we are

CurbSweep is made by Snowbelt Labs ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app stores, where, which outside services it contacts, how long data is kept and how you can delete it. Questions? Email privacy@snowbeltlabs.com.

What we collect

Nothing. Snowbelt Labs doesn't collect, receive or store any personal information from CurbSweep. The app has no sign-in, no servers of ours and no analytics, and it never sends your walks or location history to us. On the App Store, its privacy label is Data Not Collected.

What the app keeps on your iPhone

To work, CurbSweep saves the following in its own storage on your iPhone. None of it is sent to us.

DataHow it gets thereWhat it's used for
Your area (center point, radius and name) and its street mapYou choose an area and tap Load streetsShowing your streets and measuring your progress
Walked streetsMarked while you record a walkPainting the streets you've walked and your completion percentages
Walk history: start and end time, distance, new streets, and the route you walkedSaved when you stop a walkYour Walks list, favorite routes you can show on the map, goals, streaks and medals
Discovered sectors, tiers, medals and explorer rankEarned as you walkThe game: smoke, discoveries, Explore and Rewards
Goals, reminder time and preferencesYou set them in the appGoal progress, daily reminders and the opening quote

A copy of your progress is also saved as a file in the app's Documents folder so it can be restored if iOS clears the app's storage.

What we don't collect

  • No accounts, names, email addresses or passwords.
  • No advertising identifiers, ads, analytics, crash reporting, tracking or third-party SDKs that collect data. We don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
  • No contacts, photos, camera, microphone or health data.
  • No payment information. CurbSweep is free, with no in-app purchases or subscriptions.

Location

CurbSweep asks for location permission While Using the App. It never asks for "Always" access. Your location is used only:

  • While you record a walk you started. GPS positions mark the streets you walk and discover the sectors you enter. If you lock your phone or switch apps during a walk, recording continues (iOS shows its blue location indicator) until you tap Stop walk. Location is not used when you aren't recording.
  • When you tap the re-center button, to show where you are on the map.
  • When you load an area "Around my current location", to choose the area's center. Before anything is sent, that point is rounded to about 1 km (0.6 mile).

Your walk routes and positions are stored only on your iPhone and are never sent to us or to anyone else.

Outside services the app contacts

CurbSweep uses free, public OpenStreetMap services to show maps. These services are run by third parties, not by us, and they receive standard internet request information (your IP address and the app's name) as part of any web request:

  • Map images come from the OpenStreetMap Foundation's tile servers (tile.openstreetmap.org). Each request shows which part of the map is being displayed. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.
  • Street and neighborhood data comes from public Overpass API servers (overpass-api.de, maps.mail.ru, overpass.kumi.systems and overpass.private.coffee). When you load an area, the app sends the area's center point (rounded as described above) and radius, and downloads the streets inside it.

The app sends these services no account, device identifier, walk history or route. We have no agreement with them that gives us access to their logs, and we don't receive any data from them about you.

Notifications

If you turn on the daily nudge, CurbSweep schedules local notifications on your iPhone at the time you choose. We don't run a push notification server, nothing about your reminders is sent to us, and they're never used for advertising. Turn them off in Rewards → Daily nudge, or in iOS Settings → Notifications → CurbSweep. The app works without them.

Backups you export

If you tap Export backup in Settings, the app creates a file with your walked streets, walks, goals and medals and hands it to the iOS share sheet. Where it goes (Files, iCloud Drive, AirDrop, email) is up to you. We never receive it. Importing a backup reads a file you choose and merges it into the app.

Where data is stored

  • Everything listed above is stored only on your iPhone. We have no servers or databases holding your information.
  • If you use iCloud Backup or computer backups, your iPhone's backup includes CurbSweep's data. Those backups are run by Apple under Apple's privacy policy, and we can't access them.

Who we share data with

No one. Because we don't receive your data, we have nothing to share, sell or rent, and we don't use it for advertising or to build profiles. Apple distributes the app through the App Store under its own privacy policy.

How long data is kept and how to delete it

  • Your data stays on your iPhone until you delete it.
  • Reset in the app: Settings → Start over → Reset all progress erases your walked streets, walk history and routes, medals, discovered sectors and rank.
  • Delete a single walk: open Walks, tap the walk, then Delete walk.
  • Delete the app: deleting CurbSweep removes everything it stored, including goals, preferences and the downloaded map.

Your rights and choices

You can see and delete everything CurbSweep stores directly in the app. You can turn location access off at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → CurbSweep; the app then can't record walks. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK, Canada or California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or port your data. Since we don't hold any of your data, there's nothing for us to access or delete on our side, but if you have a question, email privacy@snowbeltlabs.com and we'll respond within 30 days.

Children

CurbSweep is not directed to children under 13, and it doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If we change how CurbSweep handles data, we'll update this page and its date before the change takes effect, and we'll ask for your permission before collecting anything new.
