Getting started

Do I need an account?

No. Barrelhead has no accounts or sign-in. Everything is saved on your iPhone.

Is there a paid version?

No. Barrelhead is free, with no in-app purchases, subscriptions or ads.

Does Barrelhead sell bourbon or look up prices?

No. Barrelhead is a personal tracker. The prices and values in it are the numbers you enter, so you decide what each bottle is worth.

Your cellar

How do I add a bottle?

On the Cellar tab, tap the copper + at the top right. Enter the name, what you paid and what it's worth today. Everything else (distillery, age, proof, rarity, style, bottle shape and size, store, batch and notes) is optional.

What's the difference between "Price paid" and "Worth today"?

Price paid is what you spent. Worth today is what you think it would sell for, such as its secondary-market value. Your cellar value adds up what your open bottles are worth, and the difference from what you paid shows as your paper gain or loss. If you leave Worth today blank, it's set to what you paid.

My bottle's style isn't listed.

Tap Something else under Style and type your own.

How do I edit a bottle or update its value?

Tap the bottle, then tap Edit at the top right.

How do I find a bottle?

Use the search bar on the Cellar tab. It searches bottle names, distilleries, styles, stores, notes and the flavors in your reviews. You can also show All, On the shelf or Killed, and sort by newest, value, proof, age or name.

Killing a bottle & reviews

What does "Kill this bottle" do?

It marks a bottle as finished. The bottle stays in your cellar, grayed out and stamped KILLED, and its value comes off your cellar value. What you paid still counts toward your all-time spend.

How do I write or edit a review?

After you kill a bottle, tap Write your review: give it a score out of 10, write how it made you feel, tap the flavors you picked up and set the heat. To change it later, open the killed bottle and tap Edit your review.

I killed a bottle by mistake.

Open it and tap Put it back on the shelf.

What's the difference between killing and removing a bottle?

Kill keeps the bottle and its cost in your history. Remove from cellar deletes it completely, including from your all-time spend. Use Remove for a bottle you added by mistake.

Hunt list

How do I add a bottle I'm looking for?

On the Hunt List tab, tap + or Add a bottle to hunt. You can add its MSRP, the most you'd pay, how badly you want it and notes on where to look.

I found one. Now what?

Tap Found it. It moves to Bagged, and you can add it straight to your cellar with its details filled in.

Ledger

What's on the Ledger?

Your cellar value, everything you've spent, your paper gain on open bottles, the value of the bottles you've killed, value by rarity, spending by year and your cellar records.

Your data

Will my cellar transfer to a new iPhone?

Yes, if you move to your new iPhone using an iCloud backup (or a computer backup) and restore it. Barrelhead doesn't have accounts, so there's no account sync.

How do I change my name?

Open the You tab and edit your name.

Delete your data

Open the You tab and tap Delete my data. Barrelhead asks you to confirm twice, because this permanently removes your name, every bottle and review in your cellar, your hunt list and your ledger history from your iPhone. It can't be undone. Deleting the app also deletes all of its data. We don't hold any of your data on our side, so there's nothing for us to delete. See the privacy policy for details.
